Pike season/Ausable note

With this weekend being the opening of  Pike season, decided to spend some time chasing these freshwater predators on a couple of local lakes.

With these fish being in the shallows in many cases now, always get a huge rush viewing these toothy predators ambushing the fly.

As the West branch of the  Ausable sets up for probably one of my favorite Mayfly hatches, the Hendrickson. This hatch under good water levels and water temps should have a good number of fish looking up by end of week. One of my favorite Dry Fly's for this hatch is the Red Quill,in addition to this fly I always have a emerger for this hatch. Many times on cooler days these insects tend to have a harder time leaving there nymphal shuck, this is when a emerger pattern shines.

Heading toward end of week we will see many new insects start to show,Blue Wing Olives, numerous Caddis,Little Yellow Stoneflys,March Browns, and Gray Fox.

Stay tuned.
